We are bombarded with stories of feral youths almost daily in the media (for instance, the particularly nasty story highlighted by AOG on Sunday afternoon.

As a happy antidote to that...

Let's try to remember - in the face of constant doom and gloom the vast majority of young people are decent human beings. That may be difficult to believe in he blizzard of negative stories, but it's true.

"The onlookers – aged between about 12 and 25 – managed to collect almost every note – except one £20."

No, the thieving gits, they nicked 20 quid!

I agree sp, the majority of youngsters I know are good people.
Are we allowed to say cockles on here?
If you can say winkle, you can say cockle :-)
Agreed. It warms my cockles. Good to read of young people who are decent and ordinary. They aren't normally mentioned in the news.
Didn't know you could say winkle. I'm just looking up my cockles.
Cockles is from a Latin word meaning 'little heart' says the OED. "Was this answer helpful to you?" Er...no.
I'm just looking up my cockles

I refer the Honorable gentleman to the reply I gave earlier.

And rather lucky that it wasn't very windy day.

I don't really believe in Karma, but if I did, I would hope that everyone who helped this chap get his money back, receive some good luck of their own in the near future.

Lucky man, but what a plonker walking out of the Bank with £1000, his bank card and his passport in his hand.
Yes thank you sp, what a good and honest bunch of youngsters, one can hope that they are in the majority and not in the minority.

One hears so many negative stories these days, it brings a ray of sunshine into our lives to know that it is not all bad.

I wonder what did happen to that missing £20 note, most likely it was picked up by some thieving 'Old Git' :0)

AOG

You've made me think...if someone really DID nick that £20 (rather than it just blowing away), then I hope he or she feels really rotten after reading the story of how the rest was returned.
What do you mean AOG's made you think? I mentioned the missing 20 quid before he did!

Harumph!
Yes that is a heartwarming story.

Oh dear, oh dear, we can't have such as I spoiling your moment of fame can we?

Perhaps sp ignored you because you were blaming one of the youngsters, whereas I was accusing some old git?

I missed your answer completely and acknowledged you got in there first. As a mark of respect and apology, I'm marking yours as the best answer.
sp1814

That's not fair making Boo's answer the best answer, when it once again blames the youngsters for thieving.

By doing this sp you are agreeing with her accusation.
