Following on from the John Prescott interview on dessert islands discs last Sunday and a radio interview about hugging your sons. We hug our son whenever we see him, but we do feel he tends to shrink away a bit the older he gets and yet he when he sees old friends, theres the hugging and back slapping going on. Did your father hug you when you were a child ? We sat on our dads knee, but I dont really remember any hugging

Do you hug your sons or visa versa or isnt it a manly thing to do.

My Dad was very affectionate towards us. Up to the day he died he used to hold my hand crossing the road...got told off, in front of my mates, for swearing....In the pub he'd ask me what I wanted to drink and always, always, ask if I wanted a packet of crisps.

Yes we hug....We have cuddle Wednesday. I'm not included in that because I'm a girl....and girls get cuddles whenever they want.

Obviously they can hug at any time...but on a Wednesday they make the effort to. It's quite amusing to watch.
I always hug my son (37) whenever we see each other and also when we part.
Just shaking hands,on meeting,as some do just does'nt seem quite enough for
your own flesh and blood.
I always hug my son. He probably gets as many hugs as his 2 sisters.

He is only 5, though and I know that at some point in the next few year he may not want hugs and certainly not in public.
I only ever remember my father hugging me once.
I hug all my sons and my sons all hug other people, we're a very tactile family, very chilled out and always hug each other whenever we meet.
My son (15) is still happy to hug me in public...and in front of his friends.

My other son is just 'not happy' Public displays of affection is not what emo's are about!!
You're all so lucky :-(

Mini Boo will only hug me on HER terms, and if I want one when she doesn't, she'll point blank tell me no, or do a theatrical sigh and say "inna minute!!"

Theres nothing better than being able to hug your children, no matter how old they are, so when I see my son, I make the most of it and being a mum, get away with it but my OH doesnt get quite the same reaction and gets upset about it and takes it personally.
My Dad has never been a hugger. Don't remember ever being hugged by him but since I was 12 he's had to play the role of Mum and Dad to seven kids and he's done a pretty good job so that'll do for me.
Shockingly, my son (13) voluntarily gave me a hug outside the school on his departure to Norn Iron on a manly rugby tour a couple of weeks ago.. you could of knocked me down with a feather... Mind you.. barely had two words since his return.. that's bloody teenagers for you (however, he did empty the dishwasher last night.. unprompted.. he must be after something...!) x
