I was is watching an episode of the above , the other day - the one where Del Boy is alone in a house with an escaped prisoner .

There is the sound of an helicopter .

The prisoner asks ' is that the police? '

DB looks out the window and says ' no it's Barrats '

How many of you would understand that one - or has it gone over your head ?

Well, it's gone over my head, but with it's rotor blades whirring away, Berti ;-)

oh i remember that episode berti, i love f&h
(went to see a christmas special being filmed once at the studios, the peckham spring water one. was excellent! came away with a bottle of the water)
and yes, i remember the barratts advert! lol
Berti,

I think the younger generation would have no idea, simply because they have never heard of Barrats, which is not heir fault..

I love the programme and watch some of the repeats over and over, but not all of the full feature films were that funny.

Some topical jokes do age of course.

There is a goon show (from the 1950s) where they are out walking on top of a cliff at night in the fog.

They hear a persons voice, and one of them says "who would be out here on a night like this".

And someone replies "Lady Docker" at which there is a HUGE laugh from the audience.

I assume Lady Docker was some upper class lady at the time who would never have set foot on top of a cliff at night.

I understood it and it was so funny, at the time!
I think most people on here would get that lol very good episode :-)
Hi Berti,

I understood it, but you have to remember the Barratts ad in order to get it.

Only Fools and Horses, in my opinion, is just sheer class.....brilliantly scripted by the late great John Sullivan and superb acting ..................I will keep my complete DVD collection forever as a result.:0)
Me too yogi, I watch it time and time and again.
I don't get it.

Barrats is a defunct shoe shop to me....
thanx for enlightening us chris
Am I the only person on the planet who has never found this series amusing?
You must be cc1. Barratts was a very large builder of homes in the 70's and 80's.
Errrrrrrrr

Yep.....very possibly cc1. :0)

But there again i never found Last of the Summer Wine, My Family or the newer Outnumbered funny in the slightest.
Very clever script writing, and many of the lines stay with you forever.

Trigger - you are named from the show. I must mention something my (Italian) husband once said. The police had shot some innocent person and he said "They are happy trigger"
How David Jason kept a straight face delivering that line is beyond me !
brilliant, laughing just thinking of it.
Brilliant stuff-DB falling through the bar hatch and Trig wondering where he'd gone. The "chandelier" episode, just thinking about them makes me laugh.
