i know this is a long shot but im trying to think of the name of a film i watched years ago.Ithink it was made in the 1960's or 1970'.The opening sequence is of a person killing a dr at i presume a mental institution and escaping. You are not aware at this point who it is.Then during the film you see a blonde woman being given a lift in a car by a man. They then stay in some sort of house /saack.All through the film you are begging for her to get away from the man because you think he is the escaped patient. But right at the end the camera pans onto a newspaper headline giving deatils of the escaped patient and its actually the woman!! any ideas??its really bugging me thanks

That sounds like it might be Deadly strangers. Very good fillum! Dont remember the start you describe but can you remember a multi storey car park with someone trying to stop them and warn him by waving a newspaper? Another scene is the woman strangling a bloke in flashback? If so thats the one.
I think the newspaper headlines you catch glimpses of throughout were saying Have you seen this man? with a photofit picture of him leading you to think he was the killer but in fact it was to try and get people to warn him he was in the company of a nutter!
Sounds like asylum, a 1970's Hammer horror film, starts with a policeman visiting the head of the institute and then tells 4 or 5 stories about the patients, im sure one was about a hitchhiker with a woman!!!
