is it true that you can`t tow an automatic car? if not, why is this?

the gearbox depends on a pressurised lubrication system. towing turns the output half of the box, and the oil pump is driven off the input side. a seized gearbox happens shortly! manual gearboxes have a much more primitive splash lubrication system and therefore don't have this problem. on trucks, we disconnect either the propshaft or take out a halfshaft so as to isolate the gearbox altogether when towing.
You can tow but ensure you keep to below 25 mph.  Some manufacturers may say faster, some may say slower.
