Hi,
We moved in our flat 2 years ago. Ever since, we keep being harassed by official dept companies who are after one of the previous tenents. There are letters and phone calls. It is the Phone calls that are bugging me. They phone all the time, but no matter how many times we tell them that he dosent live here they still keep phoning. Often, it is just an automated phone call with no way of getting through to customer services to complain. I do lates at work and dont get home till around 2am, which means i normally dont get up till about 11am. they often phone early in the morning disturbing my sleep. It's really getting to me. They are not always the same company either. What can I do about this? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yup change your phone number. Otherwise, the debt collectors can only be called off by the companies who instructed them, so all you can do otherwise is to ask them who they are calling on behalf of, and write a stiff letter to those companies. Have you done a credit check (experian etc) on yourselves since you moved? that would throw up bad credit for other people living at your address, you can then ask experian to correct the record. You don't want this problem affecting your future creditworthiness.
Trouble is, these are not nuisance calls in that those are cold calling or obscene etc., these debt collectors have obtained the number because it was the previous tenant's. Unplug your phone while you are asleep, that's one way to stop it ringing.
Yes i would unplug my phone when sleeping, have your mobile by you for people to ring in emergencies. I have loads of letters for the previous tenants from debt collectors, and cards through from bailiffs coming round. It is a pain, i am constsntly sending post back- they dont seem to get the hint though. Luckily i dont get phonecalls, but if i did i think i would change my phone number.

magic my aunt has bought a phone that has called display which then allows you to block numbers ....have a look and see if u can buy that mabye we are looking to get one aswell ...ii think u go into the calls list and select it and one by one hopefully u can eliminate the calls- theyre so irritating!!! mabye you could also not accept witheld nums...however most who call here now are 0800 and 020 etc xx
tinkerbell I joined the caller preference service, I pay a small annual sub and nearly all the cold calling stopped.
If your phone has a 'ringer off' option use that when you are asleep, I do. I also leave the answering machine on (volume off) so I don't miss any genuine calls.
i got them for a long time looking for someone i have been in this house for 2.5 years and the calls only started a year ago so obviously have never stayed at my address i tried to change phone number but the company were goiong to charge a fee plus it would have took time to get my internet back on so in the end decided not to bother ,i am usually calm on the phone but after the 100th or so phone call (which was the same person all the time ) asking to confirm my phone number i told her not i didnt have to comfirm it she said you do so we can take it off my records i gave in again but next day she phoned back and i was that annoyed and said lokk you phoned yesterday and i am not *********************************************
