Hi folks, will make this as short as possible,as its a helluva long complicated story..My ex and i have been split up for 5 years now,we was never married,it was and obviously in her eyes an extremely bitter split..She is married to another fella for the last few years..I have, well did have regular contact with my 3 boys, aged 9,13 and 15...Anyway,the short of it,i found out only by chance that she had changed the boys surname at school without telling me,and now she has moved to another town without telling me,all this has happened in the space of two months...I think its alot to do with her husband,he seems a control freak, and we have never got along, although i have tried....All i need advice on is that i know she can change the boys names because of her marrying etc etc..But im not 100% sure on the names being changed on the kids birth certificates,i am making an appointment to see solicitors, but thought i would ask on here first,i believe the only way that can be done is he was to try to adopt them, which surely isnt possible is it???? thanks for any help..

She can't change their names on the birth certs without your permission.
Also he cannot adopt them without your permission.
She can have the children "known as" smith instead of jones BUT all legal documents have to stay in there birth name.
The names on the birth certificate can not be changed even with your permission, the only way they change theyr names is by usage in this instance, if their step-father applied to adopt them (woth your agreement) then they could change their names,
