what is the law around money being left to nurses at the hospital by a patient and later the policy changes and the nurses are not aloud to be left gifts after the patients death

It depends on the policy of the NHS trust that runs the hospital. A nursing friend tells me she's not allowed to accept anything from patients. If a patient is determined to give gifts to staff, then there are various charitable and benevolent funds that the nurses can suggest they donate to instead.
That's an extrememly comprehensive title - I can see why you then didn't need to fill the question box in.
Is there a law or is it just an employment rule that exists for nurses/carers. I can see that it may seem unfair but I can also see that it wouldn't look good if some patients died unexpectedly and it's then found that the nurses had benefited financially.
