I know this probably is quite straight forward but, I own my own house and live alone. I have not made a will. If I die, to whom does my estate go? Both my parents are still alive so I assume that it would be split between them as they are my next of kin but I do have a sister, does she have a claim on the estate? Should I make a will?

If you want your assets to go to the people of your choice then make a will.

In your case the laws of intestacy dictate that your estate will be shared equally between your parents:

Thank you newjudge, thats what I thought.
But as your parents are obviously much older than you, there will come a point where they will probably die before you do. If you have a sisters she would inherit if your parents were deceased but this may not be what you want to happen or there may be other friends to whom you would like to leave some of your assets. Being without a Will longterm in not a sensible thing to do if you want to be sure that the people you want to inherit actually do so.
