Naming a baby

Myself and my partner aren't married and are trying to decide what to do for the best with our baby's surname. Our plan is to double barrel the 2 surnames on the birth certificate but as the names don't sound good together we then plan for the baby to just be known by one of the surnames.

My question is can anyone see any problems with doing this further down the line? Obviously the birth certificate and passport would have to have the 2 surnames but all other paperwork would just have one. I don't want to cause the baby any unnecessary problems as an adult. Thanks.

Id just give it the fathers surname if you think you have a future together? That's what my partner & I are doing when we have our baby soon. If you guys get married later on then you'll all have the same surname and no confusion for the kid later on.
I would give your child your partners surname so if you decide to get married later on then things don't have to have a name change..apart from yours that is.

Thanks for the replies but even if we married I wouldn't take on his surname.
How about using your surname as a middle name, this happend to my dad and a friend of mine...

I find it interesting that people automatically assume the baby will have her father's surname. In actual fact it's my (the mum's) surname that we will be using predominantly but want her father's name on there too.

I'm really more interested in whether there would be any legal implications in not being known by the full name on your birth certificate?
