my husband left my radio at someones house 5 weeks ago - went back today to collect and they said they have thrown it away - after denying it'd been left there - although they had acknowledged that it was a quality valuable radio. what would be my rights, would this be suitable for a small claims court? please help

Hmmm, a quality valuable radio, that you didn't miss for five weeks. Personally I think you'd have more joy getting your hubby to cough up.

Or, if you look at it from their point of view, you hadn't tried to get it back, so why should they hang on to it?

And quite aside from anything else, it'd probably cost more than a new one to go through the motions.
The radio was left there for FIVE weeks -

*The court will want to know why it took you so long to collect it.

*It will be classified as abandoned property.

*You might be asked if you paid a storage fee while it was there.
Sounds a bit odd! Like the other replies - why would you a) take a valuable radio to someones house and b) leave it there for 5 weeks?

Claim on your insurance if you think youve mislaid it.
I cant believe the stupidity of some people

You: he had my radio for 5 weeks
other person: no i didnt

How on earth could you claim thro the small claims court??

thanks for your largely unhelpful replies!!!

my husband had left the radio there and should've gone to get it sooner but was bed ridden for some of that time due to a back injury. we tried to contact the eople but to no avail and when he was able to gt there to get it, they said he hadn't left it there. after i assured him that he had, he called them up and they said they'd thrown it out in the rubbish. i thought this was rude to say the least and it would only show some courtest to call us before they did that (but i don't believe they had done). i actually did my research and it would've been eligible - i wouldn't have wanted to take it so far but the peoples attitude made me feel like i'd been done over and i didn't like that. so....i called them to say, calmly and precisely what i felt and what i was willing to do if we could not reach an agreement. they gave me 150 to replace the radio and i considered that fair......so there!

ahem, you appear to have missed off the 'na, na, na-na-na!' from the end of your post :)

perhaps you smell it because you are it!
Question Author
yeah - want the model etc to check it for yourself??? i'm not tryin to be ars*y about this but it was my property and they just got rid of it - is that not unfair?
You asked for opinions, and just because answers were negative to what you hoped, doesn't mean they were unhelpful.
Yes model number and manufacturer lol
The answers weren't so much negative as downright cynical... and worthy of much contempt.

RevFunk - why not buy your own radio here...

i can't believe we are so petty - but it's a roberts rd50 in pastel cream...go on treat yourself........but don't leave it anywhere
Question Author
and cheers kempie
Well it wouldn't cost 150 to replace it then, if it was indeed a roberts RD50

Personally I would have kept it for a week or 2 then sold it on Ebay
