Do you have to agree to a CRB check because the company tells you it’s mandatory, then then tell you it for checking that you have the right to work in the UK even though you have worked for the same company for over 15 years plus, the company do not work with children/ vulnerable people etc, I asked what happens if you do not agree, the response was “ well you have to” rubbish answer, all we got was an email to say we would be getting an email with some security questions, which turned out to be passport/drivers license etc

I thought that was only for new starters!! or new recruitment.
They cant be that bad an employers of you been there 15 years. Yes am sure they after do checks that your entitled to work in the UK. Am not sure why it needs to be via a CRB, maybe you misundastood. Is it a problem for you to have the CRB done - assume its at the companies expense
The author has been working for 15 years here, why would that check need to be made?
because they weren't found out the first time?
No such thing as a CRB check now. It's a DBS check.
What after 15 years???
it wasn't such a big deal in 2006

Disagree, they were arresting people back then!!
Your employer has a duty under law to check all employees have the right to work in the UK. They have to be able to show they have made appropriate checks.
If they have not done this in the 15 years you have been there, then they may be a bit late, but they are not wrong.
A DBS check will not show whether or not the subject has the right to work in the UK.
yes it is a bit unclear to me in the OP whether it is a DBS check or Right to work check, as both are mentioned.
If the employer is only now checking the right to work he has committed an offence. That check must be done before the applicant begins work.
maybe they are looking for valid excuses to downsize.
New judge, n this case the law came in after the person started employment.
Question Author
Hi there was no explanation at all we received was an email saying we would get an email and to answer some security questions, the link takes you a company that do the checks and they refer to it as a CRB , but either was CRB or DBS it’s the same thing, no on this site the is an option for identity but you select can not add any details, as for checking the right to work they have been doing it for new employees since the law came in, but as judge has said will not show an individual’s right to work, I did ask how or what the company will do with information received back answer “nothing “ so that raises the question why pay for the checks other than the one for right to work . FYI I have nothing to hide it’s the way it was done with absolutely no information, I was wondering if they can make you pass your information to yet another 3rd party , There was all the stuff about GDPR etc ,
