I need to find the history of what a property has been sold for.
Need to go back to the mid 80’s.

I’ve tried using this:

https://landregistry.data.gov.uk/app/ppd

But no matter how much I tweak what I input, I still get a “We’re sorry, that didn’t work” message.

I expected to have to pay, but no payment details were requested.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

might be on zoopla

Zoopla and rightmove don't go back far enough.
The Land Registry house price database doesn't go back beyond 1995.
Question Author
Oh, that's a nuisance, but 1995 would be better than nothing, so I'll have another go.
Thank you.
Question Author
No. Tried 1995,97,99,01 but still nothing.

Any suggestions as to how I can find out what I need to know?
Perhaps the property is unregistered? That said, all properties sold after a certain date (1995) became registered I believe.
Bigbad - why are you looking at particular years? If I submit a search for my street and town the result shows the transaction histories (date and price) for all properties that have changed hands since 1995
Do you actually know that it's been sold since 1995? My house doesn't show up in the price data because I bought it in 1991 and I'm still living here.

With the form you're using, enter the postcode of the property and absolutely nothing else. (Don't bother with the date fields, etc). Such a search finds every property in the road (or within that section of the road that has that postcode, if it's a road long enough to have several postcodes allocated to it). It also shows every sale recorded for each property since the database was created.

Thanks.
I’ve just tried the postcode only search, which worked, but only gives results to 2005, which is on rightmove anyway.

There are only 5 properties on a 3 mile long road, but only 3 are listed and one of those goes back to 1996.

I know for sure that the property had other owners between 95 and 2005, so don’t know why it’s not going further back.
Were they owners or renters?
Question Author
Owners.
Scroll down to "Which transactions are not included?", here:
https://landregistry.data.gov.uk/app/root/doc/ppd
Forgot to say if you choose my second link chose land title £3 This will show you the history of the change in ownership but may not show you all the sold for prices.
^^^ Zoopla, Rightmove, et al don't have their own house price databases. The information on their websites is derived directly from the Land Registry database and therefore can't possibly show any additional information.
Question Author
The property was built in 1901.
I know the name has been changed.
I know what the name was in 2015, that name doesn’t show up.
It’s likely to have been known by one or maybe two other names as well. Neither of these show up either.
APG, rightmove only goes back to 2005 for this property, and I don’t mind paying for the information if I knew I will get what I want.

Out of curiosity, I’ve looked on rightmove for properties I’ve owned or viewed and their histories are lacking.
When my Dad died in 2018, his house was sold, but the only info it gives is from a resale a year later.

Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions, folks.
