Only if she is over 16.
yes
ps resident of what?
Yes, as is so often the case the other way round.
yes a male staff nurse in a hospital can act as a chaperone
BUT
as soon as you raised the question - is it lawful etc
you are acknowledging that there may be questions asked
and it may be un acceptable to the patient
in which case I think you are foolish to persist

this has been a perennial problem in hospitals and I am sure elsewhere
Maydup, that has never been a law that i know of. Unless it has changed recently... the only law I was aware of, is that a male carer is not allowed to give personal care to a female under 16, alone.
in case there is a walk in wondering what is going on
this thread has welded together
1.law
2.defined acceptable practice according such as NMC
3.hospital rules

and of course it varies with time
the NMC confines itself to rules about nurses and midwives doesnt it? Not care staff
the OP hasn't said anything about hospitals either
I remember being in hospital when I broke my shoulder and was in for a week.

I was being prepared for an operation the first or second day - when along comes a male nurse who was actually a plasterer (building) and who was the brother of one of my friends. I chased him as I couldn't get out of the bed cos I had no panties on and I sure wasn't let him see hair and sundry. He wasn't long in shifting.
Everyone does have the right to refuse a personal carer they don't want, because of their sex.
My next door neighbour has a carer twice a week to help her shower. One day a male care worker arrived and she wouldn't let him in.
I would be like that Maggie - no way would I like a male showering me.
....or anything else, actually. But you can request a male or female carer, when it comes to personal care.
well the carers are usually if not always - one female and one male, could you ask for 2 females.
Yes... it's the only specification you can request, although you can refuse anybody.
Sorry I dont quite follow your reply to me Pixie. My answer to the question is yes, 2 male carers can care for a female resident, as can 2 female carers care for a male.
Sorry, maydup. Yes, they can if the client agrees. However, a male carer can't give pc to a female under 16... while a female carer can for a male under 16.
