well, who'd a thought it? everything shuts at 10pm so everyone gets turned out on to the streets, into ubers and on to buses trains and tubes. no possibility of social distancing!

so instead of getting touchy feely in a late night bar, everyone now gets touchy feely on their way home, net result - the virus spreads as if there had been no curfew. did our politicos not think of this at all?

Doesn't exactly the same happen when the clpse at 11?
We are in uncharted territory, wrong turns are inevitable.

no. not all pubs close at 11 and when they do close, not everyone goes straight home - they might go to a club, restaurant or all night kebab van. but now, 10pm, home. no other choices.
There seems to be a good deal of hysteria - and nonsense spoken - over this 10pm rule. The main target here isn’t predominately ordinary pubs and restaurants but rather clubs and other late night venues. We’ll live with it.

if that were the case, why is every hospitality venue - including takeaways - subject to the same 10pm curfew?
It's the simplest way. Too many ifs and buts otherwise.

Funny moment on the radio, the continuity announcer said that "10pm curfews were coming into force" then said that the script actually said "10pm curlews".
there are already plenty of complaints (especially on AB) about inconsistency; that would only get worse if you said restaurants shut at 10, bars close at 11, clubs close at 12, raves in a field in Hampshire close at 1. Naomi's quite right, it's the simplest way.
Now there's a suprise. Trouble is it's now all about being seen to be doing something no matter how ill thought out.
There's also another issue here that people are missing, which in my opinion, makes things worse, not better.
Take someone like myself - I usually go out every Fri and Sat to my local at around 8.00 - 8.30 ish.
Now with last orders being called at 9.15, there's no point in going out for just an hour, so this weekend, I went out at 6.30.
I was bumping into the afternoon drinkers that have usually supped up and gone home by the time I'm out at my usual time.
Yes you can argue that we're all meant to be socially distancing, wearing masks, etc ..... but I'm now in the same room with people that I usually wouldn't be with - it's an increased risk; no matter how small.
^^ Is this you're only problem the pub?
//// ^^ Is this you're only problem the pub? ////

Sorry but I don't understand the question??

I'm simply saying that with me being "forced" to go out earlier, I'm coming into contact with people that I wouldn't normally see.
An increased risk if you ask me.
( Forced)? Who's forcing you?
giz, you could always just drink less?
Why are they calling last orders at 9:15 anyway? When I was a barmaid last orders was 10 mins before closing
We go to the pub once a week to eat and to take part in a quiz which has been moved from 9pm to 8pm. We just go an hour earlier now and come home an hour earlier. I can't see the problem.
I think the problem is Giz now has to mix with all those weirdos that drink in the afternoon

it was, when there was 10mn drinking up time allowed after "closing". now, all hospitality venues must be cleared and shut by 10pm. it'll be up to businesses how they manage that but there can be no customers on the premises after 10. they could call last orders at 9-40, close at 9-50 and all drunk-up by 10, but that really would be rushing things.
//// ( Forced)? Who's forcing you? ////

I used that word kinda tongue in cheek :)
I work all week and I only drink at the weekend, so I like to go out for at least 2 - 3 hours.
My local calls last orders at 9.15, so people can start getting their last drinks in .... they probably stop serving at 9.30 ish .... giving everyone time to sup out and be out for 10.00

I couldn't have put it better myself lol :P
