Just back from Spar, two young blokes with no masks/face coverings.
As they approached the counter, one of them pulled his collar over his mouth, the other pulled his T shirt over his mouth.

I suggested to the cashier that they should not be served unless they bought a mask, they sell them for 79p

She said she was not allowed to say anything.

How does that equate to 'not compulsory'?
It's not up to shop assistants to enforce the law. Quite honestly if I worked in a shop on minimum wage I would not be prepared to argue the toss with customers over whether they wore a face covering or not. Also bear in mind that many people are either exempt or have a reasonable excuse. It's not up to shop assistants to quiz them about that.

These were two healthy looking young men.
That does not answer my post at 09.38

I will now look at the reasonable excuses, I should find one that suits me.
Looking health and being healthy are different things.

If the mouth and nose were covered, that is all that is needed.
My local shop doesn't enforce them.
Lots of excuses are available if you don't want to help your family and community.

Sorry danny, change compulsory to necessary.
Question Author
I always wear one in shops out of respect to other shoppers.

I was just being flippant.
Question Author
If the two young men had a legitimate excuse, why cover up at the till.

"Lots of excuses are available if you don't want to help your family and community."

Lots of valid reasons too, not always identifiable by social media commentators.
Face masks have been proven to not work against virus

against bacteria yes but they do not protect you against viruses that is a fact , so stop being so stupid people ,do your homework,

if this virus is so deadly then where is all the bio-hazard bins who dispose of the masks ?
Question Author
Cheers Barsel. Just shows how stupid it all is.
When you consider that the NHS has just dumped 50 million masks that the government ordered under their own specification at a cost of one hundred and fifty million pounds, because they are not any good, you have to wonder what rubbish we are being sold.
No people are running about with his bloody ridiculous plastic face screens which certainly do not control or protect against a virus this is a height of stupidity

You could easily change your last word to "told" lol.
We will be sending our children to school in space suits soon enough if this ridiculous nonsense does not stop now
In any case as another customer I would be tempted to keep my mouth firmly shut and not interfere in things which are none of my business.
