My daughter went to GP surgery to pick repeated thyroid medication up (hypothyroidism) and was told it is no longer on repeated prescription! She's only got half a thyroid, as she had one removed about 10 years ago. She was only in her early 20s. Well, she burst put crying in surgery, as she feels awful, having run out of them a couple of days ago. Also, she is planning to come away with is for a few days with her 15 month old son. She was told to ring doctor, who signs prescriptions. She has been ringing and ringing. Receptionists told her he's still on phone to someone else...That's been over an hour or so now! I hope she can get them, I feel so sorry for her. Anyone else got this condition, or experienced similar?

No big deal, nothing will happen to her over the weekend without her thyroid tablets by which time, the GP will have sorted her out.
it is a bit worrying for her and shouldn't happen.
it's probably just because the medication has to be reviewed every so often. It's really not the surgery's fault she didn't order them in time so they ran out. it might be there was a note on the last prescription that she didn't see to get a review.
When the doctor phones her back, it will all get sorted, don't panic :)
That’s odd, mines been on repeat prescription for years - I only picked up my repeat yesterday.
It’s normal for scripts to only be on repeat for so many times, my blood pressure is reviewed every two months and my vitamins every 6 and my stomach medication every year
I'm completely confused in how mine works now.

Smow, do you not have to tick your form and hand it in at the pharmacy?
I mean it’s automatically renewed and I just collect prescription and take it to pharmacy (yes I sign the back obv) . I mean my doctor never calls me in for a review. I merely happened to get it checked 2 months ago because I was sent for a long list of blood tests for something else and they happened to check my thyroid levels whilst they were at it. Ironically they said my thyroxine needed increasing.

Thank you all for your replies. Daughter out at the moment. Will find out when I see her shortly. She did say, she was all jittery. She's a bit low at the moment too.
When she is feeling better, I would advise her to sort out her repeat prescription a good few days before it runs out in future.
Is a review not done automatically every (year?) time your daughter is re-tested?
Question Author
Apparently, the last blood test she had, was about normal. Doctor gave her some more this time but wants to do some more blood tests soon. As soon as daughter took two of her medication, she felt better quite soon after. They did say they have been trying to get hold of her. Anyway, so glad she has them now.
I have Hashimotos and mine was always on repeat on the UK, but I was tested annually and had the dosage adjusted etc. Maybe she's due for a review and they've suspended her repeats to make her get in touch x

Maybe Cal. She seems overwhelmed by everything at the moment. She's gone very thin. I thought with uinteractive thyroid, you put on weight?
Question Author
,^^^^^^
Under-active!
Get her tested for type one diabetes- not uncommon for the two to come as a package deal. I have both- undiagnosed that will drop your weight dramatically and make you feel absolutely awful. Very important she gets her sugar level tested quickly just in case.
I suggest that your daughter goes to see her G.P., Patsy. She sees to be unwell at the moment.
How many mg of thyroxine are you all on per day then??
Question Author
Oh, I hope not..Didn't think of that Cal. I will mention it to her to get sugars tested. Thanks.
Cali.....the daughter's hypothyroidism isn't auto immune, as it is due to post surgery complication.
I am sure that she has been tested for diabetes.
125 mcg, Smow.
Me? 50 mcg.
