Harry Leslie Smith has died at the age of 95. He spent the last decade of his life tirelessly fighting for equality and justice.
His generation suffered extreme poverty and deprivation in the 1930s, fought fascism in the 1940s and then rebuilt Britain as a far better and fairer place after the Second World War was over.
They gave us the NHS, the welfare state, legal aid, better pensions, public infrastructure, and millions of decent social homes.
Harry spent the last years of his life fighting against the ideologically driven Tory destruction of the progress his generation had made.
To give up the fight to preserve these wonderful legacies to just leave them to Tory ruin would be a betrayal of Harry's memory, and a betrayal of the rest of his generation who left us them.

Thanks for posting this Canary. Harry’s like will not be seen again, more’s the pity.

Thank you Harry - RIP.
RIP Harry. A man of dedication, for a fairer society. Thank you.
Clearly a man of principle, and certainly a good innings, but what is this, Canary? A heartfelt obituary or a party political broadcast?

Party political broadcast by the look of it.
Thanks for posting this Canary. Harry’s like will not be seen again, more’s the pity.
RIP Harry, thank you.
He lived for the last 50 years in Canada where he died, hardly a testament to the NHS

From wiki
\\In the 1950s, they emigrated to Canada, living in Scarborough in Toronto and later in Belleville, Ontario//

\\On 20 November 2018 Smith was admitted to Belleville General Hospital in critical condition after contracting pneumonia. His hospital stay prompted an international cyber-vigil on Twitter and an outpouring of support from well-wishers from around the world.[17][18][19][20] He died on the morning of 28 November 2018.//
Found this quote from Harry on The Guardian’s obituary.

"It shouldn’t be considered odd that someone from my era is using Twitter. It was my generation that invented radar."
