yes if you are well enough to attend.....are you asking if you should have been asked to go, or you have been asked to go and should you, or should the employer have asked you to?
If you mean an interview for a new job, then I don't see why not.

I certainly did so whilst off sick with a physical illness, and mental illness should not be treated differently - but it might cause your current employer to ask to have an independent medical opinion on your condition.
I concur. However if you mention at interview that you are off sick due to work-related stress I think that your chances of progressing might be rather slim.
Yes, of course you can attend a job interview.

Indeed, the HR department at your present employer would probably welcome the idea. However sympathetic they might appear when someone is off with a long-term problem (whether that be stress, cancer, caring for a dying relative or whatever), the reality is that having staff off work is simply a pain-in-the-@rse for them and they'd much rather be told that the employee has quit their job, leaving them free to find someone else. So, in their eyes, anything that increases the chances of you resigning your post is bound to be a good thing.
oh I thought that current employer had invited you to attend for an interview. I agree with dave and jackdaw.....you can but its maybe not the best idea...the thing with a physical issue is you can say eg "my current job involves lifting and moving boxes and my back wont stand it so I am looking for an administrative job instead" Looking for a job which is less stressful is a slightly different and possibly difficult issue.
Wouldn't an interview be too stressful ?
Yes, you are taking appropriate action to resolve a health issue.
Twice been in this situation, the only time it came up what when asked to explain why I wanted to leave my present job. I simply said I wanted a change and a fresh challenge. Job was offered I didn't take it though I opted for early retirement instead
Yes. How would they know? You are under no obligation to tell them
