My son is 18 and has been charged with assault by beating 2 lads, it was a group fight last year, we know he's done wrong but since the arrest he's stayed away from the group of lads and is working hard and has just been promoted at work. I'm so worried what will happen to him in court

Each case is taken on it's own merits and the severity of the offence. There is always the possibility of mitigation and a good defence. A good character reference will help too.

Here are the definitive sentence guidelines for assault . I think 'assault by beating' comes under common assault. But open to correction.
