Couple have been divorced over a year. ex husband has run up some debts. exwife lives in the home which is legally hers after the divorce. she paid him off. ex husband has no belongings at the address. no children.

Bailiffs want to enter to prove he does not live there.

My feeling is that once they are in they will take whatever they can lay their hands on .

What can be done to prevent that happening.

I am sure that the wife won't be responsible for her ex husband's debts. Then again, I don't know much about these matters.
Complete and post 'financial disassociation' forms for each of the three main credit referencing agencies:

Provide the bailiffs with a copy of the decree absolute.

Consider allowing them in anyway. My own experience of having debt collectors asking me to prove that I'm not the guy who they thought was still resident at my address was one of total courtesy and helpfulness.

NOT impressed wiv da TV programmes - they ask for proof of ownership of a car like the DVLA document and then say this doesnt prove ownership ( which I agree it kinda doesnt, but why ask then?) -

and why let them in and have them take Thamanthaz money bockth - and lucy's chewed soft toy ( inc spittle) and they say if you can prove that these are your kids wivvin 7 days yeah, you can buy them back

[I just got my equifax £2 credit report and have been "linked" to all sort of members of the family I didnt know about - and details of my mortgage repayments over the last ten years.]
