If the most expensive of the three toys has been replaced for being faulty and had broken again, would I be entitled to a refund on its price (£99)or would they add all 3 prices together & divide equally and refund me that amount?

Assuming the deal was "cheapest free", I would guess that if the price of the cheapest was £x they'd give you £(99-x). ie, you no longer have a 3 for 2 deal but you've already been given £x discount, which you are no longer entitled to.
If they were being strict, I guess they could just refund you the difference between what you paid and the total of the two cheaper items - as you no longer qualify for the '3 for 2'.

So if you bought £50 £75 and £99 and paid £174 they would just refund £49 (£174 minus £125).
I might try and negotiate for a £99 Argos voucher (rather than a cash refund) they may have more leeway there and you can argue that you have still made the purchase.
