Me and my friend
I'm 27 and my friend which is a landlord is 53 went out once we finished work (23:30) 8months ago

Got permission from my wife,
We attended a pub and had a few drinks I haven't been out in a while because :
a, couldn't afford to
B, daughter was 3months old with colic

On leaving the pub we bumped into a girl that used to work for the landlord but was fired,
We was polite and said hi I also said I didn't no you was 18 and she wasn't but tried to convince us she was as she was using fake I'd she also introduced us too her boyfriend as "dexter" but turns out that was not his name but he didn't correct us on this they clearly had a lot to drink, we went our separate ways because as you do we went for a kebab we then went from the kebab to get a taxi, the taxi rank is right out side the train station which the group was now bigger with 6lads and 1 girl the girl that used to work for the landlord they started to be abusive but we took this as banter and gave banter back which they didn't take kindly they then decided to start on us which the landlord shouted "just leave us alone" which they then was attacking him and hit him too the floor whilst on the floor my friend punched one guy in the stomach so I ran over and split them up at this point I was punched to my right eye unsure who this was the situation calmed down but one lad started bouncing on his toes with his fists clenched like he was again trying to fight the landlord so I ran over and put my arm in the centre and punched the lad to his face with my left hand(I'm right handed) but knocked the lad unconscious and we left and walked home turns out the lad had a broken jaw and had to have a plate put in, there is no cctv only still images and I went in to the police station of my own accord admitted to hitting the lad but on a self defence basis only hit one person in this whole ordeal but was summoned to court by the cps went to court to give my plea "not guilty" on the grounds of self defence I was unable to use a solicitor as I could not afford this as I've got a little girl and a wife to support, I'm now very nervous that they will get it wrong if they do what is the worst that can happen ?
This has caused great stress to myself and my family all there statements don't add up can anyone advise me on this it's gone from magistrates to crown court ?

GBH without intent S20 is a serious charge , You NEED a solicitor quickly. You say you can't afford one but the reality is you can't afford not to have one. If the case had been referred up to Crown it means they are considering a jail term.
Sentencing guidelines here, you need to scroll down to section 7 & 8,
as this has gone to Crown it must be cat 1 or 2 , so minimum 1 year in jail.
It is even worse for the Landlord if you mean he is a pub landlord, any conviction for assault means he automatically loses his license to serve alcohol and therefore his job.
GET A SOLICITOR NOW !!!!
Have you checked to see if you qualify for Legal Aid?
