Now I like dogs as much as anyone, but why do some people have to have their dogs on 30ft extension leads. I fell over one today. Quite dangerous

The type of lead you describe is often used for training. The dog gets used to being at a distance from the owner as it learns recall, yet the owner still has control.
The dogs are OK. The owners need training.
I have no problem when used by responsible owners.

I've been tripped over when running in the woods by a lead crossing a path, dog on one side owner on the other.

A dog ran out into the road and very nearly got squished because the owner did not take account of the length of lead and proximity to road.
Almost said that^^^^ Lol

I agree, the owners need training. Some of them are busy talking to other people instead of keeping an eye on their dogs
I've been brought off my bike twice because of extendable leads - irresponsible dog owners:-(
