I recently received a speeding ticked due to my satnav being incorrect. Are authorities obliged to inform satnav manufacturers are kept up to date with changes?

Those who gave smug but irrelevant answers instead of useful advice might like to know that through my FOI request it has been discovered the there were procedural anomalies in the Traffic Order making that particular speed limit invalid so there is no longer a case to answer. End of topic.

No

Please say you are not going to blame your satnav for your speeding?
Lol...

Speed limits are clearly sign posted.
You recently received a speeding ticked due to your hoping to speed and yet be informed of the speed traps to avoid getting caught.

A Sat Nav doesn't remove from you your duty to drive responsibly. Even if I agree many imposed limits are too low.
And whilst I do not know, I suspect the authorities are under no obligation to give Sat Nav manufacturers more information than is available to the rest of us.
Most cars have a little gadget on the dashboard called a speedometer
Yes, postdog is correct! Any decent car should be fitted with one of these instruments.
You have to download updates.
As motorways have variable speed limits and many roads will have temporary speed limits there is no way you could ever rely on a SatNav for speed limit info. To provide updates for speed limit changes would be impossible.

Ultimately it is your responsibility to maintain sufficient awareness of your surroundings and the road conditions and to adjust your speed accordingly.

Any sensible answers please? If I am paying for updates on my satnav I expect the info to be accurate
Yes, be aware of the speed limit signs around you and observe the speed limit - you received the speeding ticket because you were speeding.
You have had 8 sensible answers so far. Nine with this one.

As said I don't see there would be any responsiblity for authorities to update sat nav manufacturers just so their customers can flaunt the law. If the sat nav manufacturers choose to gather the information and update, then that is up to them. And how much they do is a matter between them and their paying customers.
Errr, do you pay for live updates...do they even exist?

Please note my first paragraph, I was trying to be constructive, non-judgemental and offer a reason why a dynamic speed limit update might be difficult.
Are you referring to the speed camera warnings or the indicated speed on the satnav?

It would be impossible for satnav's to be guaranteed 100% accurate re speed. Temporary speed limits are all too common nowadays and most satnav's do no not pick up mobile speed cameras or traps.

The authorities are under no obligation whatsoever to notify the numerous satnav companies, and indeed they don't and never have done.

The satnav company is not liable - it is a guide only and can never replace any driver's usual competence and common sense.
doesn't matter hc.

Answer is still no

Pay the fine OP
I don't know who is responsible, however I do know now that you are not responsible either.

I am not referring to temporary speed limits I am referring to permanent changes either to the speed limit as a whole or the location where a speed limit changes. A satnav is more accurate than a speedometer which is normally about 10% out. Satnavs normally pick up changes of speed limit to within about 10m and beep if you exceed the limit. I don't expect to escape a fine so I am looking for factual answers not judgmental ones.
Speed limits can only change by going through a legal process and are in the public domain. I am just curious if the satnav software people are expected to search for this information fr if either the police or the highway authorities pass it on as a matter of course.
This is the only thing you can rely on....

You received the speeding ticket due to your speed being in excess of the set speed limit, tough, pay up and leave it be.
My point being, it doesn't matter who is responsible for updating satnavs....the speed limits are all around you.
