NI is part of the UK, so no.

Nor do you need one to visit the RoI
But you need photo ID to go to Eire. Some airlines only accept a passport.
In fact, the flag of Northern Ireland makes up part of the Union Flag (Union Jack).
You may need one if you fly there as a means of photo ID.
That's only on a flight, ummm. You can walk, drive or take a train across the border.
Yeah, I know.
Ryanair insists on passports
But once your in they may never let you leave - wierd over there they are!!
Ryanair insist on passports to fly anywhere within the UK.
fgt, you may never want to leave!
I couldn't afford to stay!
I swear Ryanair introduced that knowing passports were not a legal requirement. So they over book seats knowing someone would have only brought a driving license with them.
Ryan air flies to dublin but not belfast anymore
Ryanair now flies in to Derry airport.
"In fact, the flag of Northern Ireland makes up part of the Union Flag (Union Jack)." (Sorry can't remember how to do the italics thing ...)

No it doesn't as a matter of fact. The Irish bit of the Union flag is the cross of St Patrick.

As previously observed, some airlines make up their own rules about passports which in my view they have no business to. The fact remains you do not need a passport as a UK citizen to enter Ireland north or south.
