What exactly can be done if you see someone using a hosepipe, What are the guidelines, the punishments and is it really a viable idea?
Are the council going to have a fleet of high speed response vehicles to come rushing around even on saturdays and sundays to video people as it's impossible to get them around for dumped rubbish, noisy neighbors etc.. so what makes this any different? What if you've used your hosepipe and have it turned off when they come around and then tell them that you watered your garden with water butt water and there's no video evidence to say you've used your hosepipe?

The ban will be enforced by the Water Companies and in turn by the Police (not much to do with the councils) but they'll not put unecessary resources to policing us. It'll be more about trust and a deterent whilst raising awareness of our shortage of water.

If someone is reported they will be investigated like any other crime and if proved to be a persistant hose pipe user during the ban they will be fined. Its a Prohibition under the Water Industry Act.

Maidup it's a criminal offence? We need our police to be out there stopping any potential riots this summer not raiding gardens of pensioners who have decided to dampen their marigolds for a few seconds. It beggars belief.
I think the Police will have their priorities right Trudy. Its more about collective resposibility than enforcement don't you think?

What would you do to get us through a water shortage?
So, I can't use my hosepipe, but I can fill my watering can 20 times to water the garden??
And all this after my water rates have gone up another £50 this year!
And you can use a hosepipe running from a water butt so fill your butt discretely at night and use it during the day
I can use a hose because I have a Blue Badge. I am really hoping someone will report me, so I can stick two fingers up to them!!
(The 'someone' being the troll who lives next door!!)
Didn't know that lottie have a friend who would find it a great help
Rowan, it depends on the area and the Water Company for that area. If she gives them a ring they will let her know. It is a concession at the discretion of the individual water companies.

Our water company (Anglian Water) hasn't got a concession for the over 65's but does have one for severely disabled and blue badge holders.

Well maidup i haven't been through college, university and numerous other courses to become a head honcho in the water industry but i would start with maybe cutting expensive gas guzzling vehicles, expensive functions, over the top bonuses and maybe use all the millions saved to help plug the leaks which are wasting 460million litres of water in leaks every day.

Just had a text from Anglian Water reminding me about the hosepipe ban. Hope everyone gets one and they`re not telling me that they have their eye on me.
^^A text? No I just get a bill once a year.

I never hear from them at any other time, and have not been asked for my mobile number or my email address.
Guess who already reported someone...with proof :)

I don't agree with the hosepipe ban. Concentrate on investing in new pipes. Other countries that are hot most of the year cope.

However, I'll be damned if I have to suffer not watering the garden when I see others who think doing it at 11pm is beating the system and cheating me.
i also got a text several days ago, pity they didnt save the money and took it off my water bill!
what is the point of a ban on hosepipes if people are just going to use watering cans instead? they are still using water for the garden - just by another means .... ergo, no difference in water usage
