Hi, please help?! Our road tax is valid until midnight tonight. We renewed online today after it taking us forever to find the reminder!!! Have a printable email receipt to prove done and paid for today but obviously the new disc won't arrive in time to display from tomorrow. Can we still drive the car in the meantime? Thanks! Do NOT want a fine if its illegal! x

Yes you can, I think it does say on the website, - we usually keep the receipt in the car just in case as well but has never been a problem
Yes, you can. Police will be able to tell it's taxed from the reg plate.
Yes here it is from the website
When you apply for a tax disc online or by using our phone service you are able to legally continue to drive your vehicle for up to 5 days after the tax disc has expired while you wait for the new tax disc to arrive. This will only apply when you have applied for a new tax disc before the current one expires. You should continue to display the expired disc on your vehicle, until the new one arrives.

You have a receipt proving you have paid.
Any checks will reveal you have paid.
The disc should arrive within the next few days.
I cannot see any problem.
If you come up against a really nasty PC you may be done for not DISPLAYING a valid disc even although (as already stated) they can now check with DVLC on whether the car is taxed - very unlikely however although the Law does say a valid disc must be displayed at all times.
Bugger. Mine expires tonight and I can't get it MOT'd til then. Bugger bugger bugger. Post Office it is then!
Canary as long as you have proof of payment before the present disc expired the police can not prosecute unless it goes past the five day period stated on the DVLA website, note also that it is five working days, which for the DVLA is Monday to Friday. You therefore have until midnight next Wednesday to display the new disc.
