Just opened next doors council tax bill by accident. It was laying face down on the mat and I just presumed it was ours. It wasn't until I read 'single occupancy reduction' that I realised.

So, do I hand it over to her and apologise...

Or shred it and pretend I didn't get it...

I'm not taking the moral high ground here but she doesn't live there alone. So if I hand it back then she will know that I know...I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that.

I'd just hand it to her, apologise, then smirk.........
selotape back up, write on it opened in error and post back in postbox
shred it
Either send it back to the council and they can resend it or put it secretly through her letterbox when you know that you won't be seen.
spill the beans...its people like her that makes the rest of us law abiding, genuine council tax payers pay more....
How well do you get on with her?

If reasonably well, just tell her you opened the envelope before you read her name throuigh the window.
Return it to the council with a note saying delivered to wrong address and opened in error. The council won't know who you are and they will just send another one out to your neighbour.
But really I agree with Stoke Maverick!!!!
Write 'not here' & re-post in letterbox

We don't speak. She speaks to my OH but she doesn't speak to me. I think she heard me say something like 'I wish she'd shut her gob'

Honestly though, she is so loud she'd wake us all up in the morning.....and she smokes weed in the out house and stinks our house out...think she heard me loudly complaining about that as well :-)

I'll re-seal it and send it back to the council. Didn't think of that...

Stoke...I agree but at least she's paying council tax. That's something I suppose.
Problem solved. Grass her up.
If she is claiming she is a single occupant and isn't you have every right to report her and you can do this anonymously. This would then be investigated. You could shred the tax bill. I must admit I would be tempted!!
you don't pay more because other people pay less do you? the tariff is FIXED for your band, then people get reductions

And she's smoking weed again....just walked out to the kitchen and it stinks. That bothers me more because it makes me feel sick...
lol ummmm yes i suppose she is..the thing is there is not much difference between claiming as a ''single occupier'' or coming clean and say someone is living there...the fine for giving false information is probably hefty tho...
If the weed smoking occurs at set times you could arrange for a visit to your house by local crime prevention officer at the appropriate time.
<<<kicks out one her neighbours and offers house to ummm :)

(The neighbour is fine, it's all her s0dding relatives who insist on slamming the front door.)

I think that's a good idea Scotman, but would they call at a set time ?
