Shoplifiting - PVG membership scheme/ Disclosure Scotland
In 2008, I was caught shoplifting, arrested and taken to the police station, and this was reported to the Procurator Fiscal for consideration. I received a letter stating that I had £100 fiscal fine which I paid and have had no involvement with the police since then.
I have a place on a pgde primary school teaching course and I am very worried that this will appear on my PVG certificate (equivalent to an enhanced disclosure). Does anyone know a) if the fine is likely to show up on the certificate, and b) how the university is likely to deal with it? I haven't received the application forms yet so I haven't declared it and I don't know whether or not I should.
I would be very grateful to hear from someone else who has been in a similar position. Thanks.

It's unlikely that your brush with the law would prevent you from being registered with GTC Scotland but each university will also have its own admission policies. If there's competition for places you might find that your name is moved down the list of candidates considered for acceptance.

If it's similar to the English CRB, the disclosure of some offences is at the discretion of the people drawing up the report, not everything goes on if deemed to be not relevant. All you can do is be honest and repentant, far better to tell them yourself than to have it come up on an official report.

Nobody can tell you how likely it is to show up, I'm afraid that would be pure guess work on our parts as you can see form the replies you already have.
Chris says yes (and he is widely known here for giving correct and excellent advice) and Eddie says a friend's fine didn't - so that would suggest you have a 50/50 chance.

I recently had an English Enhanced CRB check done for a group I volunteer at. Under the 'details of other relevant information...' section it said 'none recorded'. I know that each case is dealt with individually, but do you think that this indicates that the shoplifting incident will not be disclosed on a Scottish PVG certificate, or is the PVG certificate a more thorough check? Also, do you think that they are more likely to disclose the offence if it is related to a teaching role?
