i recieve housing benefit for a house which i rent from a private landlord.

he has told me that the mortgage payments for the house i am renting from him have gone up

I spoke to the council and they told me i have to cover the shortfall myself as i allready recieve the maximum ammount of benefit.

There is no way i can cover the shortfall so my father has aggreed to buy a house and let it to me (buy to let)

Will i still be able to claim housing benefit?

yes it will be ok, cos my dad and i did the same thing, as long as it is done properly with tenacy agreement and rent book and all that, and of course you have to be seen to be paying the shortfall.

as i said...i would still get the house regardless of where live now...

lots of parents leave thier kids property in wills...what the difference?

point is wherever i lived, i would need my rent to be paid for a few weeks at a time here an there, and my dad would get rent

so whats the differnce?

as i said its all about people hating to think someone else has a lucky situation...

Boo...no...people dont seem to be able to accept that its ok to be related to your landlord...thats what kicked all this off...

snakeyes...not in the least...like i said...try ot read the post properly
Sorry joko but I do agree with ott's last post. Why does your dad charge you rent if he does not need the money? Then you wouldn't have to claim housing benefit. It is not a right, it is for people who cannot afford to pay rent but have to!

i pay rent fair and square

The Taxpayer pays your rent
It all gets fuzzy joko, when you said you'd get the house- i'm assuming when your parents die?

If you were renting from a stranger, you wouldn't get this luxury. C'mon, surely you can see where we're coming from? Even a teeny bit?
Joko, you shouldn't have your rent paid. It seems you have wealth in your family. I do pity the homeless I see on the streets in London (oh, and I could have been one of them too, but there for the grace of God ...). Stop trying to rob the rest of us, even if it may seem legal.
its usually about 3-4 weeks but can be up to 2-3 months...it varies...but i can pay the rent happily in those time.

i pay my taxes too...so i am entitled to help as an when i need it...

my parent are not well off at all...they have a few properties and get a bit of rent...2 of the properties are in a state and empty...two are rented out...mine and one other

these are just basic houses...nothing special

why do you assume they are so loaded that they can afford to give away houses?

so its down to jealousy then?
i am not being facetious or a schemer as some seem to think...but i really dont see what differnec it makes
he does need the money - thats the point!
hes an oap, living on my rent and his pension!

but boo...id get the house anyway... no matter where i lived...my parents intend to leave their belongings to us when they die and that includes the house

dont all parents do that??
You dont? Honestly?

You can't see why we're slightly peeved that you'll get a house given which we've all help pay towards?

I'm not getting at you joko honestly! And jealousy? Hell yes! Frankly I am!
Errm, no Joko. My dad rents his house himself, so i wont get that and my mum's house will no doubt go towards her funeral bills and any debts (of which she's probably got numerous of). Can't see any of it going my way.
He must have a get very big pension to own all these houses.
i get that boo... that people are jealous

but people clearly are missintg the point and not reading previous posts...

and i really cant understand whay people cant seem to grasp the logistics here...please just think about it!

the point its my dads property - bought with the intention of givign him an income and seeing him through his retirement

the fact that its me paying is irrelevant

he would get rent paid to him regardless...no matter who lived there!

and i would get my rent paid when i needed it too...regardless of where i lived

so whats the differnce?

its just paperwork that changes...not the situation

yes i am lucky that i will one day own this place...but until i do i must pay my rent however i can
Also, would you not also get proceeds from the house he's currently living in? Same as what you think everyone else gets?

Therefore you'd get a house (the one you're already in) AND money and or another house?
plus the other 2
well there is all that too, boo...they have a lot of debts that will come out of the properties.

i meant parents generally leave what they can...

snake eyes? yes he bought them all with his weekly pension (!) ..to try to make sense...

he bought them all abotu 40-50 years ago...thats why some have become unusable...he hasnt had the cash to pay for repairs....and thats why i pay him rent ...he would love to be able to let me live rent free...
maybe...but there are other siblings too...the plan was ...a house each...and one to pay for expenses and doing up the other house.

seriously...we are not rich
seriously snakeeycs...all this stuff you are spouting has been address already...just read back at bit, i cant be bothered to go over it
Can somebody tell me how I get my rent paid. please? I don't have a property owning daddy, no inheritance to look forward to, and worked all my life. Sounds like a good deal to me.
jealous? aww
