My mum has recently moved into a care home for 24hr care. We gave 4 wks notice on her bungalow, which we cleared and cleaned. They told us to post the keys back to the housing people. We did this and they are now saying the keys never arrived. In hind sight I know I should have sent recorded, but with eveything going on with mum I never thought at the time. Anyhow, they are now saying my mum owes more rent and will be charged for all the locks to be changed. Is there anything I can do so my mum does not receive a bill for several hundred pounds. I do have an appointment with CAB but its worrying me sick. Thank you for any helpful advice.

I would not worry until you have seen the CAB. I think they will probably tell you that these Housing people whoever they are, will not want to sue an old lady, living in a care home. If she genuinely owes rent, then they will probably be able to claim that, but I do not think they would have a leg to stand on regarding the locks. I suppose you have made enquiries with the Post Office. They did tell you to post the keys back, and that is what you have done, so I cannot see that it is your mother's responsibility. I think they are just trying to frighten you.
