I bought some speakers from amazon which were delivered direct from the seller (private company). the speakers have obviously been returned from a previous buyer as faulty re-packed and then sent to me. I now need to return the speakers to the seller. Will I be liable for the courier costs to return the item? I have emailed the seller and asked for a new set to be sent and to pick up the faulty ones on delivery, not sure if they will do this though.

I would imagine that you would be liable for the cost returming the speakers, and once the seller receives them they should refund you this cost.
It may be possible for the courier to deliver the new/take away the old at the same time, but I wouldn't bank on it as some courier firms have seperate facilities for returns, only the seller can really advise you of this.
Try this http://www.amazon.co....r_rmi/?nodeId=1161010

It says

If you receive an item that is different to what was described, or that is clearly in worse condition than indicated, please contact your seller directly to report the defect or damage within 14 days of receiving the shipment. You should be able to reach an amicable agreement with one another. If necessary, you can return your item to the seller for a refund. If you need to return an item due to a fault on the part of the seller, you can request that the seller also reimburse you for return postage costs, however please bear in mind that the seller is only obliged to refund you the total cost of the order in these circumstances. To be eligible for a refund, you must contact your seller within 14 days and you will need to return the item to your seller in the same condition you received it within 30 days of shipment.
Personally, I'd also make a complaint about the item saying that the item was not as listed (i.e. was not new). I had to do this with some ink cartridges that were listed as if they were original canon cartridges but were in fact compatible. I didn't even have to return them, amazon just refunded the money I paid the trader.
I'd email Amazon and inform them, and tell them that's it's not fair to you to have to pay return postage.

Hi I rang the company today and they apologised and are picking the goods up tomorrow, no cost to me thankfully, they said they will then send me a replacement once they recive the goods back, so hopefully they will. You can definatley tell they have previously been returned by someone else.
