Hi, recently my husband agreed to finance a car for a former friend and the logbook is under his wife's name. Now last couple of months they failed to pay and my husband had to pay for it. They sold and moved their house and left the country. We not sure if they ever going to come back or not and we don't know where the car is being kept.
I know that under the law my husband is the actual owner but could anybody tell me please how can my husband get the logbook under his name so he could claim the car stolen?

has your husband spoken to the finance company? or was it not car finance and just an ordinary loan. If car finance, the car actually belongs to them and not your husband or the people he bought the car for
Question Author
No he did not talk to the finance company because they know my husband as a person who must pay for it. the only problem is we can't get hold of the logbook. Is there any way that we can change the log book under my husband's?
no, of course you cant change the log book. Is the loan linked to the car or just a loan? what proof would you even have of it being for the car or the friend?
Question Author
Thanks for the quick response, he got the car loan from the finance company and they've got my husband's bank details. Up to couple months ago so called "friend" had sent the amount to our bank account then the finance company would take that by direct debit but now he's gone we are paying without having the car in our possession. We just want the car back.
Did you get a written agreement from the friend that they would pay, and what would happen if they didn't? For something like this, it would be rash to have agreed to pay something without a watertight agreement. Was there something the matter with the friend, that they couldn't get their own finance?
well surely its worth asking the car finance company if they have any advice? The worst they can do is say no.
Question Author
Unfortunately no we don't have any written agreement, friends name was already in black list and his wife's credit had been refused then their children start to cry and my husband got really upset and done it for his good heart thought everybody are like us.
how much did you lend them?
Question Author
we did't lend them anything they paid the first £1500, and the rest is monthly payment which they supposed to deposit it in our account. the car is around£6000
looks like you don't have a leg to stand on. You are committed to paying for a car you don't have.

looks like it.....
Wel you have learned a good lesson.

NEVER lend to friends and family.
