My grandson has been working one or two days a week at Mc Donalds. He started when he was 17 and will be 21 in August. They are paying him only 4.90 an hour which he has accepted as the minimum wage. I didn't know what his hourly wage was but have now looked up minimum wage and realise he should have been getting more like 5.80. I believe the amount increased on Oct 1st 2010.I don't know if his employer will be happy to increase his pay if they can get away with not doing so. Is there an ombudsman or anyone he can complain to if McDonalds are deliberately underpaying him? I guess he should be entitled to some back pay.

they have to pay minimum wage and it needs to be back paid!
Judging by google mcdonalds seem to do this quite often....
£4.92 - the 18-20 rate
£5.93 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over

Your grandson will be eligible for the higher rate when he reaches age 21 in August .
