don't you think that someone of that intelligence should aim higher in life?

i am predicted a s and a couple of bs and i want to be a marine biologist/oceanographer and my teachers say that theres nothing stopping me and that i could quite easily be one. so why has she got suchlow asperations for life?

Each to their own...I should imagine it can be very rewarding teaching little ones, and not as easy as one thinks to be good at it.

yeah but if your as clever as her you could be a scientist, a brain surgeon, a lawyer, a MP (she's in the school council already), a leading proffesor in almost anything . . .
Well good for you nix, I wish you success.

But, why do you say 'she only wants to be a primary school teacher'?

When you grow up a bit you may gain a little humility and perhaps tolerance.
With a bit of luck she will spend many years in the career she chooses now; to be happy in her work will be so important after spending perhaps 30 years in the job.
nix. Aspirations are an individual choice. And if the young lady has decided that she wants to be a primary school teacher, what better way of her using her obvious intelligence and commitment, than to tutor and encourage the next generation of children.
its because of the lowly primary school teacher that your aspiring to be a marine biologist
low aspirations

got suchlow asperations

I'm guessing A's B's and a D in English?

I'm not being picky just think that you set yourself up for a fall by being picky yourself.

Learn to spell better before you get quite so condescending towards others who are apparently working hard and have decided what they want to do.

i decided that i wanted to be a marine biologist/ oceanographer years ago.

well it started because i decided that i wanted to do something which envolved geography, the ocean, scuba diving in the ocean, the animals in the water and somewhere nice and warm.

plus all our teachers think that she should aim higher aswell. at parents evening most of our times were about the same so i heard what they said about her. they were saying hw excelent she was. then asked what she wanted to be when she was older. she said primary school teacher and they said that she could be anything she wanted to be but if thats what she truely wanted theres nothing wrong with it.

i don't think theres anything wrong with it and she'll probably end up being a headmistress but she could aim so much higher in life.
Its nothing bad about you its merely showing your immaturity .As you get older one can only hope that your opinions and attitudes also mature.

Best of luck and try harder at the spelling.

"which envolved ". i assume is involved.
you chose years ago when a primary school teacher taught you how to read and write and enabled you to make a decision like that, they are helping form a persons whole life! im sure it is a very rewarding career maybe more so than a marine biologist
Primary School Teacher? More power to her...

I couldn't do it... 'orrid little sh1ts' lol...
"There's a girl in my class who just won't stop interfering with my life and decisions - not only that, she then goes online and invites total strangers to comment on MY decisions about MY life! She even followed me around at parents evening eavesdropping on my conversations with staff, and runs tales about what other teachers are meant to think about me and my choices."
My dear Nix, can I suggest you just go and do what it takes to become a marine biologist , and keep your beak out of other people's affairs?
If this is too much to ask, then please go and research what exactly it takes to become a teacher, before you decide it is a low aspiration.
Is spelling on your list of aspirations or as a high-flying marine biologist, will you simply wave your tentacles to communicate?
The last laugh may belong to the one who has the paying job. Go to any number of job websites and count up the adverts for teachers versus the adverts for marine biologists.
Snags im gettin dejavu.
Im away before an irate sas member / parent comes on and tells us to call them.

Bye all

snags - we live in a little village and she plans to stay here for a long time. theres one tiny primary school which she wants to work at. all the children there a goody-to-shoeses so i'm sure that the job will be rewarding but they are not horrible lil shts.
Question Author
theres a large marine biology/ oceanography research centre about 3 miles away where i'm doing my work experience.

anyway she was following me around and i heard what they said as i was moving on to the next table.
Question Author
yes i do know what it takes to be a primary school teacher as my cousins wife is. she says that it is rewarding but also says that if she was clever and did better at school she would have been something like a lawyer.
Good grief. Don't you understand basic punctuation, grammar and spelling?

If you are so clever as you think you are, your posts should be a lot more legible.

Capital letters at the start of sentences and for I. Apostrophe in 'there's nothing stopping me...'

If your fellow pupil is bright enough to teach primary school children these very basic rules of English, she is doing a more worthwhile job than a marine biologist.
Hear, hear, Ethel.
I did well at school and I am training to be a primary school teacher, I don't feel as if I am aiming too low as teaching children is something that I love. It also requires much more hard work than people think, especially with the government, parents and the rest of society blaming everything that goes wrong on teachers and the education system.
If she wants to work in the primary school in the village I doubt it's because she thinks the children will be easy to work with, no class of children are going to be completely compliant and achieve all that is expected of them all the time.
And just a bit of a rant and I am going to sound very angry at you because how dare you label someones aspirations as 'low', even if she wanted to work as a shop assistant straight after leaving school you would have no right to do so! Teaching is such a wonderful profession and one that requires much more intelligence than you obviously think it needs. I hope this girl isn't put off by people labelling her dreams in such a negative way.
I suspect this post is a convoluted form of cyberbullying. Nice little Nix will want to tell all her buddies to look online at what a doofus the world thinks 'the girl in her class' is.
Busted!
Your aspiration to become a marine biologist/oceanographer is laudable.
As someone who has been "Just a primary school teacher" for many years I would suggest that you consider the skills required to teach every subject in the national curriculum.
It is not all finger painting and assembly !
