My friends son is struggling with english and they want to get him a tutor. its sooo expensive and they are struggling to afford it. Do you know of any online tutorial sites which can assess him and do an online course?

To be honest I dont think you would get it much cheaper online! I could be wrong though! I just wanted to mention that I had a tutor a few years ago for Maths and to bring the cost down I was taught with another student. - Just a suggestion?

If he is really struggling your friend should have a word with his school to see if they have any extra provision for him - My school offers extra literacy lessons and after school clubs! At the end of the day the school do hold the main responsibility for ensuring his educational needs are met! It may be that he needs to be tested for Dyslexia - the school will be able to provide for this. Ultimately if your friend is unhappy with the way he is learning at his current school it may be worth looking elsewhere for better provision ie a school that offers a dyslexia unit or maybe one that offers a more vocational approach to learning! Best of luck.
I had a sociology tutor when I was at college because the teacher i had was cr*p. She was a student at one of the local unis. Don't know whether such an approach would work if your friends son is at primary school but if at secondary age, I would really think about it.
