Do You Think Dishwashing At A Restaurant Is Harder Than At A School?

In 2014 I worked in the kitchen at a school, and washed dishes most of the time. It was mostly plastic treys the kids ate off of, but there were a lot of utensils too, and some pots and pans. I was pretty fast at it, to the point some of the kids would watch me. The ladies in the kitchen would sometimes tell me to hurry up, but it was overall a pretty easy job. Well, I'm desperate for a job, and a local restaurant is hiring for a dishwasher, but I'm afraid it will be way harder than the school job. Do you think if I could do the school job, then I could do the restaurant job fine?

You'd probably just be scraping excess food off plates and then loading them, along with cutlery etc, into a dish washing machine.  Upon taking them out, you might then be required to hand dry them.

I really can't believe that any restaurant these days hasn't got a dishwasher (of the electrical sort)!

I can see no reason why the job should be any harder than your previous one.

Yes I think you'd still be proficient carrying those skills forward with you... it does depend on the 'restaurant' though if for eg.. it's Luigi's Fish 'N' Chip Emporium or Doners 'r' Us...  you maybe a bit rushed...

Good luck.

You would be working evenings and weekends, probably split shifts evenings and weekends.

Commercial dishwashers wash very quickly, less than 5 minutes, so you would have to be quick at hosing off the dishes ready to load.

You would have to wash very large grill pans and pots by hand.

What happened to your cleaning job?   You seemed happy there.

You need a commercial dishwasher.

I wash dishes every day - it's no big deal.

Apply for the job and if you get an interview you'll find out what it involves.  No one else can tell you.
