But, the learning would have been lacking

Then painting and decorating.
The link between the two is an 'end product'.

My first job when I was 16yrs old.
Worked in an office in the centre of Manchester and loved the job and the people.
Used to love getting up to go to work.

My second job...working in the advertising department of a major department store in N.Y. We were a group of youngsters, it was the early 70s, and we had a lot of fun.
Also my last job...working as a cook in a homeless drop in centre. Gratifying and very challenging.
