Received four letters today. These all came via email and it made me wonder if our wonderful postie's jobs might be under threat in the future? All they seem to deliver these days (to me at least) is junk mail.

I still get letters through the door. Plus many delivery firms use RM to deliver packages.
Even the junk mail stopped during the worst of recent times. I guess their finances are being bolstered by the rise in parcels from on line shopping.
Not the happiest
the tax man and I are on our third appeal
and he STILL hasnt got it right

I am not alone in this - one factory ALL the staff were assessed at £2 000 extra tax as the taxman's stubby little biscuit barrel fingers hit the wrong key .....

working at home and in the garding apparently
Had a card from Funky Pigeon and a parcel of bog rolls delivered by Pat today.

I'm more worried what is going to happen to all those black and white cats :-)
Postmen deliver the many many parcels from Amazon and the like -they have been flat out since covid-19 hit. Our Postie says they've taken on more staff to cover.
Posties' jobs are certainly under threat as the majority of the work is parcel delivery but the infrastructure and processes at Royal Mail are still designed around the delivery of letters.

The courier companies are taking the bulk of that work using totally different and purpose build distribution centres, designed around the handling of packages. Royal Mail take a few personal parcels and picked up the slack at peak times, but the situation is critical.

I don't know where you get that from because most of my online shopping is delivered by Royal Mail. I would say 4 out of every 5 parcels are royal mail. Only the larger items I order are sent courier. Amazon uses royal mail!

''A few personal parcels and picked up the slack at peak times..... '' ?

I think you'll find they handle a lot more than a few personal parcels

Are you not aware of 'Parcel Force ' which is part of the Royal Mail group ?
Maybe it depends where you live. I get a lot of Amazon deliveries and I’d say only one in twenty gets delivered by the postie.
I get loads of stuff. mostly small parcels.
Amazon use whoever give them the best price, occasionally thats Royal Mail where they can take the business, but its only the case in a handful of areas.

The courier companies have far more modern set ups and the flexibility to deliver all day and everyday, not just on a postie's round, so they win the business over and over. The pandemic has shifted the balance all the more and Royal Mail/Parcel Force have failed to adapt or respond to the increase in demand.

Our Amazon deliveries only ever come via a multi drop and we are in the coutryside.
