Employment Furlough

My company has told all employees that they are going to go on to the governments employment furlough and only receive 80% of their salary but are expected to carry on and work 100% of there contractual hours.

Are they allowed to do this?

As i understood it this Furlough was for workers who could not work

No. You aren't even allowed to work for one minute a day for them under the furlough arrangements

Unless it's a zero hours contact so that means you won't work at all
Claims can be made using an average for those on a zero hour contract. See the link above, but indeed no hours must be worked from home or at the establishmnet, in any capacity.
