My kids are really keen to spend their school day on a group conference call with their friends to make it feel more like the school experience. What are your thoughts on this?

Sounds a great idea. Give it a go and see how it goes...
Granddaughter has a social and teaching group set up by her school. Teaching one used at set times for lessons. Social for early morning and early evening. Some teachers sending written work by email. Working very well.
not all day. you need to limit the skype call time - in my experience there is a lot of squealing, a lot of everyone trying to talk at once an ok for social but nothing else, pleae let me know if you make it work
I think the novelty will wear off after an hour or two but it's worth a try
I think there's a good chance that schools will be off until September and then may have to close again next winter so we may have to rethink the way we teach (lots of lesson planning even for lessons when we know they are a waste of time) and the ofsted regime, and voluntary home learning packs for those that want them may become more common.
