School uniform round here is trousers/skirts, white shirts/blouses, blazers, shirts, ties, caps/boaters.
I think most schools still have a "proper" uniform.
The School I went to still has the following

Black blazer & Alec Hunter badge
Plain white shirt - Top button of white shirts must fasten in order for Clip-on tie to be worn
Plain black tailored trousers or knee length skirt
Clip-on Alec Hunter tie
Optional plain black 'v' neck jumper
Black socks or tights
Black low-heeled Leather or Leather-Look shoes

Polo shirts are required for PE though..

clip on ties were brought about because of pupils continually wearing them in a sloppy manner as a fashion statement. everyone looks the same now (tie wise)

Clip on tie, Chuck ? !!

=0)

Mine had one of these ...

... but the ribbon was a different colour.
I also think the clip on ties are for safety reasons.

A clip on tie will just pull off if it gets caught in anything (or caught by anyone) whereas a normal tie causing a strangulation risk if it gets caught in anything.

The clip on tie is the only thing that's changed in the uniform since I was there, it used to be a normal ties 20years ago.
And from my grammar in that ↑ answer you'd never think I did go to school!!
Was tie strangulation something of an issue, Chuck ??

LOL
Aah ... good answer from cazzzz about the ties.

Thank you.
in fact a lot of the new academies that have opened now have a whole range including coats, fleeces, sportswear and bags that have the school colours and logo.
At my children's school they can wear what they choose as long as the colours are correct. Grey dress/trousers/cardie/jumper with a light blue shirt/polo shirt. Grey or white socks and black shoes. I tend to get the sweatshirts because they are easier to wash and dry and last the whole year.
When I was there we were required to tuck our ties inside the shirts on entering anywhere like the metalwork or woodwork workshops due to safety concerns.

If you get a normal tie caught in the chuck of a lathe when it's running your day is going to turn very bad very quickly.
