My friend's partner works in a factory. They work up until Christmas Eve, just have Christmas Day & Boxing Day off (Tues, 25th, Wed. 26th Dec.), then return on Thursday to finish the week out. No one's able to take any more days off, as time has to be accrued, & the working year goes from November to November - so they would've worked for one extra day maximum. Now the company's decided to close down for the entire week. The employees'll be paid - but the extra days they take off are to be deducted from their holiday entitlement of 20 days per year. I don't think this is legal, but can anyone advise please?

Yes they can but the annual leave entitlement rose to 24 days a year recently:

He must make sure he gets his extra 4 days paid holiday.

These answers are just what I needed - thank you. Also - Ethel, thanks once again. The computer prob's being sorted now.
Yes, but like most people, he probably got 20 days PLUS Public Holidays, in which case he wouldn't get another four.
