Convincing boss to let me attend college

My husband, who is already an accomplished lanscape gardener wants to do an HNC landscape management course at college. It would mean one day off a week (unpaid) and his boss has said that if he can convince her it would be a benifit to her company then she will let him go. He is to state his case tomorrow morning. He is very good with "hard" landscaping and is a qualified builder but this course teaches more of the "soft" landscaping and design, the boss says she already knows people who can do that for her! Can anybody help Please?
