Hello!

Today i was reading Daily Express newspaper and i came accross this Saga Car Insurance for 180£ for people older 50 yo. For those that claimed thei insurance from 13th november to march are payiong this amount. 13% Discount in underlined.

I called Saga insurance and i give them all the necessary information as requested. I have asked them for a quotation based in the fact my parents are 50yo and they have more thatn 4year claim bonus. The operator said the premium would be 861,76£ taking into account that i had a quotation made today online. This is a rip-off! The online quotation was close to 1000£ for a daewoo laccetti 1.6 2003 online and i received 2 letter from saga stating they have the right for a low insurance.

So the advert in the newspaper is a complete *** ? Has anyone outthere have heard about 180£ insurance and they have your car insured to this amount ?

Several year ago, they owned a car honda accord 2.0 and at that time they were only paying 150 pounds-200 pounds. I dont know now. I even received a letter from Saga stating that they have the right to a low insurance. I have received 2 application forms. One, i filled it up and i sent out to saga 2 weeks ago but they never replied!

I've been insured with Saga in the past but I've found that Post Office Insurance can offer cheaper quotes.

The figures for my insurance premium (commencing on 1st March, so it's completely up to date) are as follows:
Premium £172.46
Reduced rate annual RAC cover £18.80 (It was free for the first year!)
5% Tax £9.82
Total £219.56

So, without the RAC cover but including the 5% tax, the total figure (£181.08) is very close to your £180 target.

That's for an X-reg Escort, with comprehensive cover (with only a £100 excess), for a 57-year-old male with maximum no-claims bonus, in East Anglia.

Hello Buenchico!

Tell me how did you do that? I made a quotation in the Post office and it states 1474£ lol . I am probabily doing something wrong! Or is it beacuse of the Car dawoo laccetti 1.6 ? Is it just for your own use or your spouse as well ?
It's for my own use ('cos there's just me) on a 'social, domestic & pleasure + commuting' basis.

My quote was obtained over the phone. When I taxed my car at the Post Office they invited me to provide my details for a prize draw with Post Office insurance, on the condition that they could phone me up with a quote. I had no intention of accepting the quote but I thought that I might as well enter the draw. When I got the phone call, I was surprised to find that they could offer me a much better deal than Saga were giving me.

It is a ford escort? , what year is the car and door number ? what model is it ?

I just want to make sure if it is because of the car , i think the car is expensive to be ensured. I will advise them to sell it. They bought it for 3290 and it is on sorn at the moment. They cant afford that much. I really tought they could have such a low premium.
Escort Finesse Estate. (Hence 5 doors). 2000. (Insurance Group 15)

The Daewoo Lacetti is in Insurance Group 23.

To keep insurance premiums down, you need to be aiming for the lowest group possible. Search here:

The Saga web page states comprehensive car insurance from £180, not that it is £180. Obviously you need a low insurance group car, large noc claim bonuses and no extras.

is it because you are trying to add yourself as a driver too?

insurance quotes are also based on postcodes, you would be surprised how it can alter from road to road not just big towns..If a certain postcode has a high level of claims up goes the premium.
my postal renewal was up 50£ re-applied on line and was quoted 40£ less, so much for cutomer loyalty. had to cancel the renewal insurance first as it was blocked
Car insurance is a shark pit.

My premium last year for a 3litre SUV was around £400 with 1st Premier.

Renewal Notice - £995.

Checked out rates on Confused.com and I can go to Swiftcover and several others for around £400. Ist Premier quoted £700.

Methinks their Underwriters don't want any car business at the moment unless its from people daft enough to pay anything.

Try a comparison site.

Hello ;)

I am still struggled to ensure my car.

Another thing also important to say is that i own a car in another country of europe (EU) in this case, Portugal. An old Renault Clio Fidgi. 1.4 1995 and it never had any accident. The thing is that i quoted on moneysupermarket.com and i came accross different comparisson sites and this one called Endsleigh.co.uk shows a premium of 375,75£ (with roadside breakdown cover) . This was for a +9 years no claim discount and 18+ driving license and with the car parked in a garage. The thing is, i called the company twice, today to ask if i could use a No-Claim discount from another country company and she said i was not allowed. I have done this in the past on quinn direct for an accord 2.0 and at that time i used to pay only 177£ within the stated in the post.

Now i dont know what to do. 375.75£ is really a good business (attractive) taking into account my others quotations on saga, rias, autodirect. This company endleigh is the one that offers the best business up to now. My parents they have never had an accident in the past 11 years and they own their licences over 18+ years.

I also have the documents that shows my old fidgi was insured with that company called "Fidelidade Seguros" in a foreign country. I dont know why this company doesnt accept this condition because end of the day is the same thing as transfer my car from portugal to uk and transfer the insurance, Isnt it ?

opened to any suggestions!

Some companies they do accept NCD from EU countries, such as quinn direct and Yes as long as you provide the policy number, and a letter stating that the records are clean for accidents in the road. Few years ago i was lucky to find a portuguese guy in the call center and he advised me to do this. Also this information is on the internet (just read the companies Faqs) and ncd from overseas. They can fax it and make sure. I have the letter with me however it is not translated. My parents have about 9+ years NCD from overseas and this is actually a rip-off robbing people who has not had any accident in the road in the last 13 years.
