My son visits me regularly from France and each time I pay a fee to include him on my motor insurance. I t has occurred to me that perhaps he could be covered to drive in the UK by his own motor insurance policy with his French company. Anyone any idea if this might be possible?

Why not add him as a named driver next time your insurance comes up for renewal?
It's got to be cheaper than paying each time he comes.
In France the car is insured and anybody driving the car is insured too, so long as they are over 25 and have had a full driving license for over 2 years. This means his insurance company will not insure him for driving a car in UK.
I suggest you do as hopkirk says and put him on your insurance as a named driver.
The person asking the question did not make it clear if his son is bringing his own car over from France, or using his father's when here.
If he brings his own car is he not covered by his insurance company as we can be if we take our own car abroad?
rescuer I understood that he was driving a UK car and not his own. His own car would be insured.
I think it's perfectly clear he isn't bringing his own car. If he was bringing his own car there would be absolutely no need or reason for genthon to put him on his/her insurance.

Thanks all for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated. As I thought must put him on my insurance, He always flies over. Sometimes he hires a car depending on how long he his here and the cost of course!
