my sisters has been a named driver on her boyfriends car insurance policy for the past 3 months. He has recently lost his licence due to drink driving...which im presuming makes his insurance invalid? Can she continue to drive the vehicle as a named driver or does she need to take out a new policy??

He needs to contact his insurance company ASAP and get it sorted out, especially if he keeps the vehicle on the public highway.

If the insurance policy is void it is cancelled in its entirety and she cannot drive on it.
He must inform his insurers immediately of his conviction and disqualification (as he would have to do with any motoring conviction whether he was disqualified or not).

They will almost certainly cancel the policy forthwith.
Some insurers will allow the policy to continue and specifically exclude the policyholder from driving. They would then probably rate the policy on the declared main driver and I have known them to delete any no claim bonus unitl the policyholder is legally able to drive again.

Of course some insurers will just cancel the policy or may have it written in to the policy that the policy is automatically void.......speak to them quickly
