Quite so, scorpious, and how much nicer wouldn't it be if either instead of, or preferably as well as uninsured drivers being fined, they were made to contribute heftily to this fund?
Also bear in mind that the fund is there as a last resort. So if you are insured comprehensively, you would have to claim off your own insurance. Also, any claim is subject to an excess (300 I think)
Yes, but the amount of compensation is capped to a relatively low amount in comparison to a similar claim from the other driver's insurance company.

And if like me you are fully comp and have your own sickness/accident/injury insurance you are entted to exactly nothing from the MIB scheme. Which makes me fume as not only do I pay for all my own insurances, I'm also paying 30 a year for this.
And if the accident is caused by a hit and run who cannot be traced - you get nothing.

And the uninsured driver can throw the spanner in the works and make it very difficult to claim:

what a big fat con!
thats slightly incorrect Ethel - the MIB will deal with claims against both uninsured and untraced drivers - the untraced are subject to time constraints and they wont deal with some property damage but if you are injured they ill settle that.

if the person is uninsured and traced often the MIB will seek reimbursement from them after they have settled the claim.

plus if your claim is settled by the MIB often your motor insurers will allow the NCB.
