I bought travel insurance, starting now, for my trip to USA in September, but is this valid for any other travel problems, for instance if I was in train accident in the next few months.

That very much depends on your insurance policy. You can buy annual insurance which covers you for most trips through the year, or a one trip policy that covers you on for that holiday.

If it is a one trip policy you wouldn't be able to claim for the train accident but you could claim the costs if you had to cancel the American trip due to injuries sustained in the train accident.

Read the policy

If you are unable to travel to the US for medical reasons (e.g. following an accident) you should be covered. You won't be covered for travel in the UK unless you are staying away from home for 2 nights or more. My policy covers UK travel/holidays on that basis.

It is for the full year.  So maybe I would be covered for this ficticious train accident.  Maybe I'll have to brace myself and read the pages of smallprint.  Thanks for the answers.

If the train accident occured on the way to, from or during a three day break you should be covered.

If it happened on your daily commute you wouldn't be covered

Thank you Barry1010.  That's good to know.  I do use the train for short breaks.  Let's hope I don't need the insurance though.

You hold the policy, we don't. Read it, or provide us with a copy.

I always thought my job was like a holiday, so perhaps I would have been covered in the event of a train accident!
